Description: Training for the ESL tutoring: One orientation with lunch provided for all volunteers on August 25 from 10 - noon at the Bryan Public Library. Supplemental training is available for anyone who wants more, on-line. They will be using Pro-Literacy Training materials (formerly known as Laubach, for you old-timers). Bobbie Pennington at Bryan Public Library is beginning an ESL/bi-lingual story time program in the Fall. She wrote a grant to the TX State Library and Archives Commission for a modest amount to be used ONLY for materials. Bobbie will be providing coordination and will be primary instructor (time carved out of her regular very busy job as youth services librarian) and otherwise will be relying totally on volunteers and contributions. Gay Wolken will be assisting with the volunteer tutor training and instruction. Brazos Interfaith Immigration Network (BIIN) will be an informal partner in helping to solicit volunteers as well as providing information and referral for our clients who need and are seeking English language instruction.
